Northeast Ohio criminals continue to find creative ways to earn money. Gregory Wade’s idea of stealing from a cemetery certainly is one of the most disappointing stories in today’s news. Mr. Wade has safely secured his position at the bottom of the “scrap metal food-chain” by pillaging from sacred memorials which honor those who have passed on. Many of Mr. Wade’s fellow criminals choose to obtain auto scrap from junk cars or by removing aluminum siding from houses and even stealing catalytic converters from junk cars, none of which could be compared to this new lowdown crime. Northeast Ohio scrap related crimes are abundant, but this one just seems particularly heinous.

The Aurora Advocate is reporting on July 28, 2014 that “A 47-year-old NE Ohio man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison he stole vases and urns from gravesites. Gregory Wade of suburban Akron pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. Summit County Common Pleas Judge Alison McCarty also sentenced him July 25 to pay restitution. Wade was accused of stealing dozens of bronze items from Hillside Cemetery gravesites and selling them for scrap metal.  One man told the judge a vase was stolen from the grave of his infant son who died in 1970. He was among several family members the judge heard from. She commented that the law sometimes doesn’t adequate address “the emotional effects” of a crime.
